Mission

We are a vibrant Montessori community where together, through our dynamic and relevant curriculum, we guide students toward self-discovery and the realization of their unique contributions to the world.

History

MCS has emphasized a strong sense of community since our school was founded in 1980. At that time, a group of dedicated parents banded together to keep their children’s preschool (called the Chapel Hill Montessori School) in operation when the proprietors decided to close.

Over the years, we have continued to expand and add academic buildings to meet the needs of our growing student population. During the summer of 2009, we completed the construction of a fine arts center, the centerpiece of our $4 million Campaign to Complete the Community. The Spark Center contains dedicated space for art, ceramics, and music instruction. With our Capital Campaign assets, we also purchased an adjoining 4-acre property, paving the way for future expansion and implementation according to what we have outlined in our Campus Master Plan.

Even with our growth, we remain strongly connected to our past and continue to value the strength of the families who had the vision to create our community.
