Teacher Spotlight – Benni Blount, Assistant Teacher: Toddler

What drew you to becoming a Montessori teacher? I love being a guide to child-led learning. Children can do so much when they are given the opportunity to show you.

Describe your all-time favorite lesson or one that impassions you? My favorite lesson would have to be showing an 18-month-old all the materials to get their own individual snack. By the next day, they are able to self-serve. I love watching how proud they are to do it for themselves.

Who do you admire (and why) or do you have any heroes? I admire people who live their own truth.

What do you believe to be the greatest benefit to a child who has had a Montessori education? I believe a Montessori education can give you better problem-solving skills and confidence. Montessori education can also give you an abundance of compassion for yourself and others.

What is one thing that most people at MCS don’t know about you? Most people probably don’t know that my spirit animal is a sloth!!

If you could have any person, living or dead, as your Head of School, who would you choose? President Obama
